Open Gym Starts Sunday

Have you been missing ultimate?  Are you ready to throw a disc around in the warmth of a gymnasium?  Well, lucky for you, it's time for Sunday Open Gym!

How to participate in $1 Open Gym:
1. Pay $1 to Parks and Rec employee at the door.
2. Enter gym wearing clean shoes.
3. Play ultimate!

Open Gym is basically a 5v5 pick-up game.  Please bring a white and dark shirt to make dividing teams easier.  Bring friends to try out the sport!

Cleats or running shoes (NO METAL spikes or cleats)
Lots of water. Not sure when they turn outdoor water on anymore

Strangers, be like Sam and get random runners to join the fun
A couple of discs

I hope to see a lot of faces out there. Pending any kind of horrible weather such as thunderstorms or squalls, we shall play.

Reminder: We do play in rain. We DO NOT play in lightning or conditions that would damage the fields. We'll make playability decisions as they need to be made.

Winona folks or anyone else traveling from afar, we encourage you to consult the radar when making your decision as to whether to drive down.

The cold weather may have scared us away for a couple of weeks, but we're making a comeback.  Dust off the cleats and play in La Crosse or Winona this Sunday!

What's Happening This Spring

• Winter League Session 2b ended with a fizzle. Repeal the 22nd went through pool play undefeated, but Bernie was denied a second chance to take them down due to Easter scheduling conflicts.
• College ultimate is in full swing with all local teams heading to Old Capitol Open next weekend in Cedar Rapids, IA.
• Summer League 2016 registration will open April 15.  Look for registration information on the main News page and the Summer League page.  Registration will close May 27 at 2pm.  Please register early.
• Pick-up ultimate is gearing up as the weather gets nicer.  Watch for announcements here, on facebook, and on twitter.
• Do you have middle or high school-aged children?  Do you know someone who does? Registration for the Youth Summer Program also opens April 1.  This is a great chance for kids to get involved in the best sport ever.
• UW-L's Women's Ultimate and CURDS are teaming up to hold a Girls' Ultimate Movement (GUM) clinic in June.  Watch for more info on how girls in the community can participate in learning both ultimate and leadership skills.

Wanted: Pickup Coordinator

With Summer League being finished and the fall weather heading in, we've officially started "Fall Pickup" season. Pickup games from here on out will be Tuesday evenings at 6:30 pm at Weigent Park (16th and Cass).

Pickup game consistency seems to work better when someone is actively coordinating games. CURDS would like someone to volunteer to:

- attend pickup on a consistent basis
- post events/reminders to the CURDS facebook page
- informally poll the community for interest in a second pickup time on a weekend day/set up weekend pickup games

If there is a small group we will play mini and if there is a larger group we will play pickup.

To the good folks playing pick-up this evening --

We will be moving pick-up location to Weigent Park, at the corner of 16th and Cass St.  Come out and enjoy the neighborhood park that was the home site of ultimate in La Crosse before Veterans Freedom.

Game starts at 6:30pm.  Come at 6:00 pm to get your cleats on and chat with friends.  Don't forget your alternate-colored shirts (white and non-grey dark).

Pick-up is still on for tonight.  It looks like the rain is gone, so unless Mother Nature does something weird, we'll play at 6:30p

Thursday is Semifinals!  #1 Bad Axe will play #4 Lemonweir on Gopher Field.  #2 Root will play #3 Kickapoo on Badger Field.

Thanks to everyone who came out to skills clinics the past five weeks.  We hope they were informative and fun.  Constructive criticism is always welcome, and requests for mini-skills clinics focusing on specific aspects will be entertained.  Just send us an email!

Our regularly scheduled clinics have thus ended, and starting this Tuesday, we'll have pick-up at 6:30 pm every Tuesday at Veterans Freedom until the end of the summer league season.  As usual, this is free to all who are registered for summer league, and $2 for anyone else.
