2018 Summer League Wrap-up

The second half of 2018 Summer League unfortunately ended without a championship game, thanks to thunderstorms and football taking away an opportunity to reschedule.  We made the best of it, however, and celebrated ultimate, friends, and spirit at Turtle Stack, our wonderful sponsors for the league.

This year was the first year we have had spirit prizes handed out for good spirit!  Each captain chose a male and female spirit award winner, who took home a pint glass, an armband, and a sticker!

Congratulations to Pete, Violette, Anna, Patrick, Hope, Drew, Sally, and Chris V. for showing your good spirit!

In true ultimate fashion, the game results of our Championship and Consolation games were decided by RoShamBo (Rock, Paper, Scissors).  Prothonatary Warblers continued their undefeated streak by defeating the Pileated Woodpeckers in a rousing sweep in a best of five to win the league.  The Loons came from behind to sneak past the Herons to take third place.

We hope everyone had a good time at league this year.  Please fill out the survey and tell us how you felt about the league.  Then sign up for the Coulee Hat (only $5 for league players!).  And then watch your email for announcements about CURDS Winter League offerings!

End of Summer Season Party

CURDS is happy to announce that this year, we will be hosting a bit of a party during the last game of Summer League on August 16th. Turtle Stack has agreed to roll out the barrels and provide us with a keg of delicious beer for the event, and we'll have a bartender there to pour and keep us all age-appropriately hydrated. Additionally, we will be handing out some prizes to members of each team, so make sure to congregate after the games for a brief recognition.

Beverages will be served, starting around halftime, to all in attendance, with soda provided for those who would prefer/are under 21. Every Summer League Player shall receive a complementary drink ticket from their team's captain, and additional beer can be purchased for the discounted price of $3. We'll keep pouring until we run out, so stick around after the game to play catch, socialize, and drink more Turtle Stack. This is a cash only shindig though, so please bring cash instead of plastic.

THIS IS NOT A CURDS ONLY EVENT! Bring your friends! Bring your family! Bring your friend's family! Everyone is invited, and all are welcome. The money brought in by this event will be used for future CURDS activities, leagues, and events, so this is a great way to insure there's more frisbee to be played in our area.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact couleeultimate@gmail.com.

Let's close out the 2018 Summer Season with a bang!

Summer League: first half results

The first half of summer league finished with a sweltering evening of ultimate.

The Pelicans won the championship game with an undefeated season, beating the Tundra Swans in a close game.

The Canada Geese and the Great Egrets were tied going into the second half, but the Canada Geese flocked together to get the win.

New teams, birds, and schedules for the second half are now up on the Summer League page.

Thanks again to Turtle Stack and La Crosse Parks and Recreation for sponsoring our summer league!

Summer League Games Cancelled for 6/21

Due to the unrelenting rain and poor drainage of our fields, we will not be playing frisbee tonight. All league games are postponed, and no one is allowed on the fields.

In the past, people have said "Hey, just because it's cancelled doesn't mean we can't play on this now unused field." DON'T BE THAT GUY! We're not cancelling out of spite, or because we hate fun. Tonight is cancelled because if we run around on flooded fields, they will get torn up and nasty for the rest of the summer. You'll just ruin things for everyone.

INSTEAD, come on down to Turtle Stack Brewery around 7pm to hang out with frisbee people and drink an age-appropriate beverage. There will be a taco truck for food, or you can stop by anywhere else and bring in whatever food you want. (Polito's Pizza is around the corner, for example.)

Mid-season of Summer League

We are just past halfway through the Summer League season, and no team is undefeated and no team has lost all of their games.  That seems like a successful first half to me!

As a reminder, games are now scheduled on Tuesdays AND Thursdays.  Please check the schedule to make sure you know when you are playing.

Tuesday pick-up games are on hiatus until league games have finished.

Soggy Summer League Games

Did that thunderstorm worry you?  Well, aren't you lucky everything passed through so quickly!

Summer League games are still on for this evening!

If, however, we get another shower, we'll need to reevaluate the soggy field conditions.  Check the social media for any cancellation notifications.
