11 February 2014

Think summer! It's only 13 degrees outside.

Last week CURDS met with La Crosse Parks and Recreation to discuss Ultimate in 2014.  It looks like we'll again be at VETERANS FREEDOM PARK in the middle of the mighty Mississippi River.  We're still working out the details, but much will be the same:
  • League will run from June through August

  • League play will happen on Thursdays

  • Pick-up and Skills Clinics will happen on Tuesdays

  • Wicking jerseys with your $30 entry fee

A few differences:
  • No bass fishing tournament = less chewed-up fields!

  • Instead of a 9-game regular season followed by a 2-game postseason, we'll likely have a 6-game regular season followed by a 2-game postseason.  Remaining Thursdays will see us playing in a hat-style league.

  • The opportunity for a travelling team to practice on VETERANS FREEDOM PARK*

  • The possibility of a late-August or early-September tournament in La Crosse

So, what's there for you to do in February?

  1. Keep chatting up your friends, especially the women.  Ultimate is more fun the closer to a 50/50 gender split we get.  If someone is wavering, remind them that there is no better deal in town than $30 for 13 weeks of gameplay.  This to say nothing of the awesome camaraderie we share.

  2. Consider volunteering to captain or co-captain a team.  Captaining can be an extremely rewarding experience!  Little known fact: captains get to drive the tank.

  3. Contact CURDS to see if there are any volunteer opportunities.  Things like soliciting local business for donations or sponsorship, hanging flyers around town, helping to create and administer skills clinics.

  4. Brainstorm for themes for this year's team names.  CURDS will be happy to help in this endeavor if it takes place at a local watering hole.  Similarly, we'll need assistance with graphic designs once we have a theme.

So, keep warm by thinking about how you can help build the Ulty community you want!  And be on the lookout for P&R's summer activity guide.

*Travelling team practices will be allowed only if said practices do not compromise the fields.  CURDS Summer League has the right of first refusal, and the travelling team practices at their permission.

  1. Hey, asshole. You forgot to mention that this year teams will be DRAFTED. Want to be a captain now? Yeah, I thought so!
