The traveling team, Bonobo Handshake, showed up to play Wisconsin Swiss this weekend in Madison with a sexy roster of players and plenty of layout-inspiring beverages. Unfortunately for them and the entire field of 26 teams, the tournament was substantially cancelled due to thunderstorms and a deluge of rain early Saturday morning and again Saturday night.
Despite the conditions, Handshake managed to play three games.
1. Noise 13 - Bonobo Handshake 2
This was Noise's tryout tournament, and Handshake's first game of the season. Suffice it to say that Noise warmed up for an hour, and Handshake's sideline looked organized.
2. White team 9 - Blue team 8
After being kicked off the fields, Handshake retired to a secluded park near Kristen's house and played some excellent Ultimate with themselves. The Blue team was ahead at half 5-2, but the White team came back and took the game on Universe point. Tasty food was then had by all.
*2.5 We won the party. Yes, we did.
3. Bonobo Handshake 13 - Rockford Spin-Itch 10
After much schedule rehashing, Sunday morning saw Handshake taking a strong 7-3 lead at half in another quiet Madison park. Rockford wasn't too happy about this, and decided a 1-3-3 zone would be a more effective defense against Handshake's quick cutters. It caused some problems for awhile, but Handshake pulled through and won the game on a hammer from Abby to Tony in the endzone.
It was a good showing despite the crappy weather, and Bonobo Handshake looks forward to playing a full tournament next weekend at the MS Open in Austin, MN.
