CURDS League Management Policy

Purpose: Provide the duties and responsibilities of the board, league commissioners, and captains
for CURDS leagues.

1) Duties of the board
a. Set times and dates for the league, and reserve field space (interface with Parks and Rec)
b. Determine type of disc sport being played, format of game (e.g. Swiss, 5 v 5, 3:2 gender ratio), level of competition, and purpose of league. Communicate with league commissioner any scheduling and/or rules that will be followed for the league. Any scheduling and/or rules will be communicated at least two months prior to the start of the league.
c. Run registration
i. Set registration costs.
ii. Order any shirts/discs/etc provided as part of league participation.
iii. Advertise for the league
d. Recruit and train league commissioners
i. League commissioners will be recruited from all active CURDS players (players who have played at any time in the last two years).
ii. Solicitation of people interested in being a commissioner will begin at least three months prior to the start of the league.
iii. Selection of the league commissioner will occur at least two months prior to the start of the league.
e. Board will determine any incentives for league commissioner and/or captains.
f. Act as an appeals board for any disputes not resolvable by the league commissioner or involving the league commissioner. Note that any dispute that makes it to the full board will not result in a favorable impression of anyone involved.
g. Act to maintain the integrity of the league.
i. The CURDS board can act by majority vote to discipline a player, captain, or
commissioner for failure to follow CURDS policies or acts that run contrary to the
purpose of the league.
ii. The board may eliminate any player from the season and disallow players from
registering for the league in the future.
iii. The board may replace any league captain or the league commissioner at any time. Replacement may occur independently of elimination as a player from the league.
h. Solicit written feedback from league participants on the overall league format, the actions
of the league commissioner, and the quality of the captains.
i. The secretary is responsible for collecting feedback.
2) Duties of the league commissioner
a. Duties subject to board approval
i. Determine league schedule within the framework set by the board.
ii. Determine team names or options for team names
iii. Obtain/create any shirt/disc designs for the league.
iv. Recruit and train captains as necessary.
b. Set the teams via draft by the captains or by assignment (draftless leagues).
c. Arbitrate any disputes between captains
d. Enforce league rules as set by the CURDS board
i. The league commissioner or any board member may remove a player from play for a
day for failure to follow CURDS policies or acts that run contrary to the purpose of the
league. More severe disciplinary actions require the action of the board as provided in
1g above.
e. Provide a written report to the board within a month of the end of the season. Besides a general
recap of the league, it is recommended that the commissioner briefly discuss problems
encountered and suggestions for future iterations of the league.
f. Collect signed waivers and enforce no playing without a signed waiver.
g. Be present at all games or arrange with the board for an alternate.
3) Duties of the league captains
a. Captains duties are fully enumerated in the captains’ handbook.
i. Amendments to the handbook may be proposed to the board by the league commissioners
ii. The board determines the contents of the captains’ handbook.
b. Arbitrate disputes between players
i. Disputes may be referred to the commissioner as needed
